Christopher Columbus

Overview

In 1418 the portugease started to explore under the rule of Prince Henry. They were exploring all over the coast of Africa. In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and found a new world, what is now known and North America. To be fair with Spain, Portugal signed a treaty stating that half that land will be given to Spain for their exploration. Vasco de Gama acheived greatness by reaching India around the south tip of Africa, and thus began the trade of Europe and India. Later the Portugease would land in China and later the Spice Islands. In 1522 Ferdinand Magellan led a Spanish expedition to circumnavigate the world. However Magellan did not make it all the way around he died in battle, but still gets credit for doing it.It was 1492 when Christpher Columbus sailed to the "new world". He set out with three ships, the Gallega, Santa Clara, and Pinta. Columbus left 39 men in the now a day Haiti and returned to Spain. Before he set sail he kidnapped some natives and took them back to Spain with him to show everyone. Everyone said that the trade was bad with the people in the Caribbean was bad at trade other then Africa or Asia.In 1497 an English expedition was called out to explore North America, John Cabot was one of the first to go on this trip. Spain didn't really show intrest in exploring North America since South America was already finding wealth and they wanted a sure thing instead of gambling on something they didn't know what was there. Some different explores explored all of the now a day USA. Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed the coast of the Atlantic Coast from South Carolina to Newfoundland.
